Trivia
Sony Ericsson is a joint venture established on October 3, 2001 by the Japanese consumer electronics company Sony Corporation and the Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson to make mobile phones. The stated reason for this venture is to combine Sony's consumer electronics expertise with Ericsson's technological leadership in the communications sector. Since this joint venture both companies have stopped making their own mobile phones.
The Sony Ericsson logo is a 3D sphere both among other thing both resembling a 'S' and an 'E'. The logo served as a archetype and one of the first so called 'Web 2.0' logos. Actually Web 2.0 refers to new internet technologies, like Ajax, at the beginning of the 21st century. About the same the design and layout of these new functional enabled websites changed to a new visual style very much a like f.i. this Sony Ericsson logo. And somehow as of 2003 everybody started naming these type of 3D, shiny, glossy logos 'Web 2.0 logos'. A 'Web 2.0' logo is now synonymous to a modern and trendy logo...
The logo was awarded with the Japan Typography Association Award and the Japan Sign Design Association Award.
