TriviaThe logo for Koninklijke Hoogovens (a Dutch steel manufacturer) was made by designer Jurriaan Schrofer (1926-1990) in 1962. Schrofer placed a square for each of the five main business units of Hoogovens, in such a way that the space between the cubes took the form of a starfish (the plants are located on the Dutch seashore).
It was used as the company logo from 1963 till the end of the nineties. Schrofer designed the logo as a farewell present, when he stopped working for Hoogovens in 1962. 'I couldn't resist the temptation to solve the problem that bothered us for such a long time', he wrote in a letter in 1963.
